VW Bora Boot Release relay switch

Postby Zzz » Wed Jan 27, 2010 6:23 pm

Hi Guys,

i have a VW bora 2001, i have a issue with the boot release, the central locking works and all the doors open but when i try to open the boot it does not open, i have to manually open it with the key. when i try to open the boot i can hear the microswitch click but the motor does not push the latch out to open the boot.

i can confirm the microswitch is working fine (tested with voltage meter) and so is the motor that pushes the latch to open the boot. i am having a issue trying to locate where the boot release relay switch could be. i have removed the trim under the dash on the drivers side and have 4-5 relays and none of them have anything to do with boot release. i have checked the fuses also and there are fine. where else are VW Bora relay switches located?

if you guys need more info then please ask and im sorry if i am not making sense.

It is all in one box called the central convenience unit which you should have scanned for fault codes at a garage equipped with a diagnostic computer. This box is located up above the fuse box, above and to the right of the steering column, it is not serviceable.

Hi Crasher,

the fuse box for the Bora is on the side of the dash, and i have checked the relay switch under the driver side dash. what do you think is the best way forward?

Thanks

Yes I know the 1J platform fuse box is on the side of the dash, I have done this for a living for the last 25 years… The convenience unit is above the height of the fuse box and directly above the relay plate to the right of the steering column almost above the level of the steering column. The problem is most likely to be with the boot release solenoid (item 8 in the diagram, VW part number 7L6 959 781) but the convenience unit will probably tell you what is wrong if you take it to someone with fault code reading equipment where they can interrogate the convenience unit to see what codes are stored.
