Warm starting proplems

hi i have 1.9 D mk 3 golf and its ok at starting cold and at full temp but when its half way between the 2 it always struggles to start, the glow plug lights don't come on

i was wondering whether it was the glow plug relay or maybe something to do with the fuel pump, if u had ne ideas i would be thankful

What is the engine code, 1Y?

Even though it has limited diagnostics, I suggest you start with a fault code read but remind whoever does this not to scan it under “Engine 01” but under “Diesel pump 41”. I suspect the coolant temp sender will be the problem.
